Help Us Fight For Music Creators' Rights
I received this message as an email on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at 09:03 PM (EST) from Neil Portnow, president and CEO of the Recording Academy. He asked me to forward it along to my friends and colleagues in the music business, and I am happy to do so. I've had the pleasure of talking with Neil on numerous occasions, and he's a wonderful person.

Dear Recording Academy Member:
In June, I wrote to inform you about the musicFIRST (Fairness in Radio Starting Today) campaign to remove the historic injustice exempting radio broadcasters from paying royalties for sound recordings.
In July at the request of The Recording Academy, your fellow Academy members Judy Collins and Sam Moore testified before the U.S. House of Representatives to advocate for a fair performance right.
In November, Recording Academy Chicago Chapter President Alice Peacock and Academy member Lyle Lovett testified before the U.S. Senate on this issue.
Yesterday, a bi-partisan coalition of Congressional leaders in the House and Senate introduced "The Performance Rights Act."
Today, it's your turn.
Please let your elected officials in Washington know that fairness for music creators is important to you. It only takes a few minutes to send an email to the House and Senate by using this link http://capwiz.com/grammy/issues/alert/?alertid=10695346&type=COF
Together, we can achieve Fairness in Radio Starting Today.
Kind Regards,
Neil Portnow
President/CEO
The Recording Academy
PS, please forward this email to your friends and colleagues in the music community.
